While the village of Indian Head Park may seem relatively new based upon its incorporation date of August 4, 1959, its hitory goes back much further. Built upon the lands of the Potowatomi Tribe which was forced to move west, early settlers were intent on keeping alive the Native American tradition of respect for the environment. Indian Head Park strives to maintain an atmosphere of natural beauty balanced with friendly, welcoming neighborhoods and community involvement. Native American history abounds in the village, evidenced by its street names and other village monikers, such as the "Smoke Signals" village newsletter. Home of the first Democratic Convention in Cook County in 1835, Indian Head Park was the center of Cook County back when it encompassed all of what is present day DuPage County as well as parts of Will and Lake counties.
