What started as a boarding house for Illinois & Michigan Canal workers in the late 1830's, the town of Willow Springs quickly spread all along Archer Avenue, just south of the canal. It is a thriving community proud of its connection to Chicago history. It was an important stop for canal boats and Indian tribes, a summer destination for Chicago families, a getaway for prohibition era figures like Al Capone, and a suburban mecca of ballroom dancing with its famous Willowbrook Ballroom that still draws crowds today.  Surrounding forest preserves seclude Willow Springs from the expressways located at its borders.
